Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Version 1.0 · In force from 18 Sep 2026
The short version
- We collect what we need to run the marketplace, check documents and take payments. Nothing more.
- Identity documents are held apart from the site, are never published, and are seen only by staff who need them.
- We do not sell your details, and we do not share them for other people's advertising.
- Our servers and our mail are outside Cameroon, so your details travel abroad. We say where and why below.
- You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
This summary is here to help you. It is not part of the agreement, and the numbered clauses below are what applies.
1. Who is responsible for your information
Asanji-Ventures, of [address to be completed], decides why and how your personal information is used on this site, and is responsible for it.
For any question about your information, or to use any of the rights described below, write to [email to be completed] with "Privacy" in the subject line. We reply within 30 days and sooner where we can.
2. What we collect
When you create an account: your name, email address, telephone number, the country you live in, your language, and a password which we store only as a one-way hash that cannot be turned back into your password.
When you advertise: the details of the listing, the neighbourhood and city, photographs and video you upload, and any reference numbers you enter such as a title number.
When you apply to advertise as an agent or a company: your identity document, your licence or registration, your agency name and your official telephone number.
When you order a check or a service: the documents you send us, the reference of the property or vehicle concerned, and what you tell us about why you are asking.
When you pay: the amount, the method, the transaction reference, the telephone number the payment came from, and any proof of payment you upload. We do not see or store your mobile money PIN or your card number.
When you use the site: the pages you look at, your approximate location from your network address, the device and browser you use, and the times you visit. We keep your network address with certain actions, such as accepting these terms, for security and for evidence.
When you message another user: the content of the message. Messages are stored so that both of you can read them and so that we can investigate a complaint.
3. Why we use it, and what entitles us to
To give you the service you asked for: running your account, publishing your listing, taking a booking, carrying out a check, processing a payment. This is because we have a contract with you, and because you asked us to.
To keep the site honest and safe: checking identity, spotting fraud and duplicate accounts, investigating reports, keeping records of introductions. This is in our legitimate interests and those of every honest user, and in some cases it is a legal duty.
To meet obligations the law places on us: keeping accounting records, answering a lawful request from a court or the authorities, and complying with rules on money laundering where they apply to us.
To tell you about things you asked to hear about, such as a saved search alert. You can turn these off at any time, and we do not need your permission to send you a message about a transaction you are already in.
To improve the site: understanding which pages are used and where people get stuck. We use the least identifying information that answers the question.
We do not use your information to make any decision about you by automated means alone that has a legal or similarly significant effect.
4. Identity documents and other sensitive material
Identity cards, licences, title documents and reports you send us are stored outside the public part of the site. They are not published, they are not attached to your listing, and they cannot be reached by a web address.
They are opened only by staff who need them for the task in hand, and every time one is opened it is recorded.
We ask for an identity document only where we need it: to approve an agent or company account, to carry out a check you ordered, or to meet a legal duty.
5. What other people can see
Your listing, its photographs, its neighbourhood and city, and the name you list under are public. Do not put anything in a listing you would not want published.
Your telephone number and email address are not published. They are released to another user only when you agree to release them, or when you make contact first.
Where you list as a company or an agent, your agency name and the region you work in are shown on your public profile.
Messages between users are visible to the two of you and, where a complaint or an investigation requires it, to our staff. We may hold back contact details inside a message to protect users from being taken off the site and defrauded.
6. Who we share it with
Partners we engage on your instruction, such as a notary, a surveyor, a guide or a driver, and only what they need to do the job.
Payment providers, so that a payment can be identified and matched.
Our hosting and email providers, who hold the data on our behalf under contract and may not use it for anything else.
The police, a court or a regulator, where we are lawfully required to provide it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.
A buyer of our business, if we are ever sold, on terms that keep this policy in place.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers.
7. Where your information is held
Our web hosting and our email are provided by companies whose servers are outside Cameroon, at present in the United States and in Europe. Your information therefore leaves Cameroon.
We place these providers under contract to hold the information only on our instructions, to keep it secure, and not to use it for their own purposes. Where information about a person in the European Union is transferred, we rely on the standard contractual clauses approved for that purpose.
You may ask us at [email to be completed] which providers we currently use and where they hold data.
8. How long we keep it
Your account and the records attached to it: while the account is open, and for five years after it closes, so that we can answer a claim or a tax enquiry.
Listings and their photographs: while published, and in our records for two years afterwards.
Identity and licence documents: while the account they support is approved, and for five years afterwards where an accounting or anti-fraud duty requires it, then deleted.
Payment records: ten years, because accounting law requires it.
Checks and reports we produced: ten years, because they may be relied on and may need to be produced.
Messages: three years after the conversation ends.
Records of accepting these documents: for as long as the account exists and six years afterwards, because they are the proof of what was agreed.
Where we no longer need something, we delete it or strip it of anything identifying.
9. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and we will provide it in a readable form.
You can ask us to correct anything that is wrong. Most details you can correct yourself in your account.
You can ask us to delete your information. We will do so unless we are required to keep it, for example an accounting record or a check that somebody may rely on, and we will tell you which parts we are keeping and why.
You can object to us using your information for our legitimate interests, and we will stop unless we have grounds that override your objection.
You can ask us to restrict what we do with your information while a dispute about its accuracy is resolved.
You can ask for the information you gave us in a portable form, so that you can take it elsewhere.
Where we rely on your permission, you can withdraw it at any time. That does not undo what we did before you withdrew it.
Using any of these rights is free. We ask you to prove who you are first, so that we do not hand your information to somebody else.
10. Cookies and similar technology
We use a small number of cookies and similar storage, and no advertising or tracking cookies from other companies.
A session cookie keeps you signed in. A token in each form protects you from a forged request. A preference cookie remembers your language, your currency and whether you chose light or dark. Your browser also stores small preferences locally, such as a collapsed panel.
These are necessary for the site to work or are set because you chose something, so we do not ask for permission for them. You can clear them in your browser, but the site will forget your choices and you will be signed out.
11. Keeping it safe
Connections to the site are encrypted. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. Private documents are held outside the public folders and served only after a check that you are entitled to see them. Access by staff is limited by role and recorded.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach occurs that is likely to put your rights at risk, we will tell you and the appropriate authority without undue delay.
Help us by choosing a password you use nowhere else, and by never sharing it. We will never ask you for your password.
12. Children
The site is not for people under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, write to [email to be completed] and we will delete it.
13. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first at [email to be completed]. We would rather put it right.
You may also complain to the competent authority in Cameroon. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may complain to the supervisory authority where you live.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The version and date at the top show what is in force.
Where a change materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect and, where the law requires it, ask for your agreement.
